Several of the guys at Jon's station, along with their wives, planned a trip to Kansas City for a Royals game. We left the kids with Kelly, who came to stay at our house, and headed to the game. It was over 100 degrees, and the game was at one in the afternoon, so it was hot! I don't quite understand baseball fans, but I suspect they all have some mutual screw loose :) But seriously, some of the people were sitting in the sun baking for hours. I don't see how the game can be that interesting. The stadium was really big and different than anywhere I had been before, and the hotdogs smothered with sauerkraut or pepper and onion, and sugar-crusted cinnamon cashews were very yummy. And paying $4.50 for a bottle of water was new for me, too! Our seats were, thankfully, in the shade, so we didn't suffer too much. Everyone was in such a good mood. We passed a hat around our group and each added a dollar when a new man was at bat. And whoever was holding the hat when there was a home run got the money. I won one of the times and got thirty bucks.
This was our first trip alone as a couple since our honeymoon, and I think it has been my favorite trip so far in my life. We had the freedom to do what we wanted when we wanted, and it was so great! We went to dinner at The Cheesecake Factory, and after dinner split a delicious slab of s'mores cheesecake. Then we went back to our hotel on the plaza and worked out, and then had a swim in the outdoor pool before bed.
The next morning we went to breakfast at The Classic Cup on the plaza. I had a yummy egg sandwich, and Jon got biscuits and gravy. And we nibbled on a huge pancake. I have to have a little sweet at breakfast (who am I kidding- every meal). After breakfast we stopped by Union Station, which is an old train station that has been remodeled and houses some different exhibits and shops. Before we hit the road we stopped by the Boulevard Brewing Company, but it wasn't touring time and all we got to see was a little gift shop. Then we headed back home to our sweet babies.
