This book was a favorite of my sisters and me when we were young. I recently ordered a copy so I can share it with my kids.
Mr. Willowby brings home a Christmas tree that is too tall. The butler chops off the top of the tree and passes it on to Miss Adelaide, the upstairs maid. Her tree is also too tall, and she slices off the top and throws it out, where it gets salvaged by Tim the gardener. The tree continues its journey, gifting various creatures with its tops as they are cut off into smaller and smaller segments. The very tip finally ends up in Mistletoe Mouse's house, where it is just the right size.
The illustrations are adorable.
